As a former career officer in the Army, I follow this television program with great interest and am a fan of Ray Klaassens.
One of the things the candidates in that program learn is the application of action intelligence. Making the right decision at the right time in unfamiliar situations. Thinking under pressure and possessing action intelligence to adapt within the frequently encountered spectrum of violence in their case.
Now, the work of commandos is completely incomparable to working in the automotive industry, and lives aren’t directly at stake, but there are some parallels to be drawn. Commandos often face unfamiliar situations in enemy territory. The automotive industry, too, faces considerable uncertainty about the future and what lies ahead. What will the agency model mean? What will this flood of new Chinese car brands mean for my business as a renowned dealer of a long-established brand? How can I still make money with electric cars that require much less maintenance? Where do I find good people now that everyone is dealing with staff shortages?
Being aware of your surroundings and constantly observing to make the right decisions is always important, and this also applies to the automotive industry. I don’t necessarily want to speak of action intelligence, but rather of work intelligence. But that also requires action. Finding the right balance between using human intelligence and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve work processes, for example. Work intelligence involves a healthy balance between human and artificial intelligence to accurately and efficiently analyze, understand, monitor, and improve the work within the organization.
Many automotive companies still have significant work to do in this area. How much (relatively simple) repetitive work in the administrative process of ordering a car is already fully automated in your company? This allows your people to focus on what they’re good at: customer contact, communication, using creativity in sales, immersing themselves in the customer, and also understanding how successful salespeople operate. Learning from each other and improving together as a sales team. You create that space by deciding today to do things differently tomorrow and automating as much repetitive administrative work as possible.

“In 2018, we integrated DocBase with our own systems. With 12 locations across the country, we process approximately 15,000 sales files annually. The data is sent to our Data Warehouse, which prepares the file for DocBase and updates it immediately. This is a two-way process. Our Data Warehouse also retrieves data from DocBase, including sales files, trade-ins, leases, warranty terms, damage history, and customer information, to create workflows.”

If you ask a car dealer what they enjoy most about their job, you’ll hear things like: “Working with customers. Knowing all the ins and outs of a car and then conveying that effectively in a sales conversation. Gaining trust by being transparent and sincere. Concluding a good service contract when selling or leasing.”
What you never hear is: “Handling all the paperwork in so many different systems.”
DocBase helps digitize and automate document flows. Think of quotes, appraisals, financing, RDW registrations and/or deregistrations, and calculations.
